Webcam doesn't show?

when I turn my webcam on through Yahoo! messenger, a bit black screen appears where on earth the video should be. I tried adding myself to my buddy document and then watching it that process, but it denies me permission to vista my own webcam. Even after I start a conversation and invite myself to view it, consequently accept the invite. I go to messenger and selected the camera. It time-honoured it as being at hand. The led desk light on the camera signifying that it's turned on is on. The camera is a Dynex camera. Any ideas?
