What is Formating?

I a moment ago got a Sandisk MobileMate Memory Card reader for my camera memory card. I plug it surrounded by my computers USB, and it says you necessitate to format it. I don't know what it does. A formating window open, I click ok, and it says it can't be formatted. Help?

What is Formating?

if it cant be formatted check it for passwords or read simply files and take these bad then it will be fine.
it sets up your card so that you can write files to it. a short time ago be careful formatting. if you hold info on the card, formatting will also clear any data specifically on the card, so format it AFTER you transfer the files to a folder on your computer. also, manufacture sure that you have the card contained by the card reader when formatting. that is probabely why you are getting that error message.
Formatting is used to completely clear adjectives information from a hard disc or memory card.

I enjoy no idea why it is asking you to format the card reader as it doesn't hold any information.

Does it with the sole purpose ask to format when you put a memory card in? If so, the card may requirement formatting if it hasn't yet be used.

Just be VERY careful. If you format something, adjectives the information on it will dissapear and you will need special software or specialists to retrieve it and this is expensive.
Put the card into your camera, it should enjoy a Format Memory Card function or something like that.
