What is volatile & non-volatile memory?explain?

If you read your course transcript I'm sure you'll find the answer to your homework !
Volatile memory is memory that loses its data when it loses power. RAM memory within PC's is an example; when the PC is shut down the contents of RAM are lost.

Non-volatile memory is data storage that remains intact when it loses power. Hard disk drives, cassette cartridges, CD's, DVD's, and flash RAM are examples; when their power source is shut down they retain their data. The optical disks retain it because the information is physically etched onto the plastic with lasers; the discs and tape carry the facts on magnetically charged surfaces.
