USB port problems?

I Dont know why my usb port is inoperative when i jack in my ipod within the computer it does not detect it but when i do on other computer it works can u tell me whats the problem near my usb ports please

It could be anything. . . maybe your port is defective, or its driver isn't installed properly. Does it work if you plug it into the usb ports that are within the back of your PC? (assuming you enjoy a desktop PC). If that's a case, your port probably is defective. You could conceivably go backbone to where you bought your computer and they'll fix it, or buy a USB extension and plug it into the port contained by the back.
Drivers and compatibility come to my mind.

And the speed of the usb port itself. Some things require a 2.0 usb port vs the elder machines which have 1.0 etc.

Check the specs on the ipod vs the specs on your contraption.
Try updating the ipod drivers and installing them
